A performance of Paul Dresher’s “Guitar Quartet,” recorded at the Live Oak Theater in Berkeley, CA., on February 23, 1975. Dresher, who is perhaps best known for his many music theater pieces, composed this quietly melodic, yet hypnotic work, for four acoustic guitars in 1975. While the influence of the then popular repetitive or minimal style can be detected, the work clearly stands the test of time, and its softly intricate rhythm patterns is bound to engage and please almost any listener. The performers for this concert were Peter Draper, Barry Angel, Juanita Oribello, and Paul Dresher.
